This Is How We Do It

Occupational Therapy at Moving Parts

The goal of occupational therapy intervention is to improve a child's success in school, work, home and the community.

Occupational Therapy improves a child’s skills in his “occupation” which may include handwriting, play, eating, and dressing skills as well as other things kids do in their days. We do this through focus on fine motor skills, visual and perceptual skills, core strength, bilateral coordination and sensory-motor integration.

In our clinic we work to balance therapeutic play-exercise aimed at the child with education and support for their parents. By developing relationships with not only our children but also with their parents, we are able to make more change. In addition to the improved function of your child, our goal is for parents to leave our clinic with the tools to support to them.

Parents can expect to be intimately involved in treatment and are present during most sessions. All caregivers are welcome to be a part of treatment.  Sessions often include time spent collaborating with families.

Our individual and group sessions are generally 40 minutes in length. Treatment can be for several weeks or from 6 months to a year depending on the client's goals. This would be discussed upon completion of the evaluation. We provide intensive services (multiple sessions per week) in order to achieve neurological improvement. Our small group (2-4 individuals) therapy can also be advantageous for individuals who benefit from social skill practice, peer modeling of skills, supportive camaraderie or friendly competition.

The child's first appointment is 75 minute evaluation session in which we establish goals and a treatment plan. Depending on the type of service you are receiving, you and your therapist will develop a treatment plan focused on your areas of concern. During all evaluative sessions the caregivers are present.  Evaluative sessions will be a combination of standardized testing, caregiver/client interview, structured observation and observation of caregiver/child interactions.

For all families who are using insurance, or upon request, an evaluation write up will be completed along with a treatment plan and evaluative sessions will be billed out at the evaluation rate. Please contact our office for more detailed information regarding private pay.
